El otro día escuchando música sentado en el patio de la universidad se me acerca un compañero y me pregunta, “¿Qué estay escuchando?”, “Refused”- le conteste. Busco New Noise, sexto track del disco The Shape Of Punk To Come, y le paso un audífono para que los escuche. Para mi sorpresa mi amigo me dice: “Esto es Lostprophets”.

Luego de explicarle que Refused era una banda de Umea, Suecia formada en 1991, me quedo pensando lo adelantado que estaba este grupo musicalmente. Ya van más de 15 años desde su origen y su sonido es perfectamente confundible con el de bandas contemporáneas.

New Noise es un tema visionario con sintetizadores, gritos de su vocalista Dennis Lyxzèn y una creatividad musical envidiable para el año 1998. Para mí, esta canción es una radiografía de la situación musical actual que vemos reflejada en pokemones y hardcoritos y su coro me trae a la cabeza bandas como MCR, FOB, Panda, The Academy Is… y otras que nacen de “las compañías que promueven el Punk como alguna especie de producto para ser ingerido”, cómo dice Greg Griffin en su Manifesto Punk.

Vean esta declaración de su vocalista y contrástenla con la letra de esta canción, ¡Notable! “Lostprophets”, dijo mi amigo… yo le digo, “¡gracias!”

“We made this album wanting to challenge peoples preconceptions of what a Punk band could be and what it could play, because Punk is the most conservative musical form there is. Even in Hardcore, there are so many rules about what is and what is not acceptable, and that completely negates the whole spirit of the original idea.”
