Tal como nuestro querido ZenemiG abrió su corazón para compartir su banda sonora en un momento duro de su vida, yo les contare una infidencia. Siempre he dudado de las personas que dicen que el primer disco que compraron es alguno de una de las bandas emblemáticas del rock (Joy Division, Ramones, The Clash, Velvet Underground por mencionar algunas). Es por esto, que yo siempre reconozco que el primer disco (cassette para ser mas preciso) que compré con mi propio dinero fue Jagged Litttle Pill de Alanis Morissette, el cual no es una mala elección para alguien con 12 años sin todos los avances tecnológicos para procurarse música que existen hoy en día.

Ahora, hay una gran diferencia entre el primer disco que compre y el disco que le dio sentido musical a mi vida, el cual me convirtió en el melómano que soy actualmente. Ese disco es el Smash de The Offspring del año 1994. Bryan “Dexter” Holland era y es mi ídolo (algo que se acentuó luego de su público apoyo a Napster). Fue a través de esta banda y este disco en particular con los cuales me introduje en la música, específicamente en el Punk Rock Californiano (muy mal visto en esa época por los puristas Punk). ¿Qué tiene que ver la canción escogida con lo que estoy contando? Thank You de Descendents es la canción que yo le dedicaría a The Offspring. Este tema es del disco Everything Sucks del año 1996.

Descendents es una de mis bandas de culto y con la cual me identifico mucho. Esta banda nació en 1987 de Hermosa, California formada en sus inicios por Frank Navetta en la guitarra, Tony Lombardo en el bajo y Bill Stevenson en la batería, a los cuales se les uniría en 1980 su carismático e inconfundible vocalista Milo Aukerman.

Que mejor manera que rendirle honores a una de mis bandas más importantes como The Offspring con un tema de otra gran banda como lo es Descendents.

We were such ignorant little kids, that we literally didn’t know we were punk. We just knew that all the cool people in our school bugged us and that we liked this kind of faster music we were hearing. They were calling it punk rock, which seems like a weird name for it, almost like a negative name and it was a really negative thing to be punk, whereas now, I think punk just means clothing. But as a teenager, it meant to me, that I found that little place where I can be myself and I found a place where some jock wasn’t going to throw the last bit of their hot dog at my head.
